How’s your day?

At the start of day, students will have the opportunity to explore self-directed learning activities, independently or with a peer, using our weekly Montessori inspired learning activities. We will then come together to review expectations and procedures of the day. Students will have responsibilities delegated, then we will review our pledge and begin our designated computer work. Students will work in 30-minute increments to complete their computer work. We will have snack breaks, brain breaks, and walks, to break-up the work time. Our goal is to complete one subject each day. Once the morning work is complete, we will have lunch, then prepare ourselves for the Field trip that day. Students will get to explore, learn, and make connections to the curriculum, by actively participating and experiencing their curriculum. Finally, we will wrap up the day’s activities, then return to home base for writing and reflection.

Our Curriculum

We use a Hybrid Learning approach at SHA. We recommend that students have accounts on Time4Learning, but students will also participate in many Montessori inspired activities during their independent work time. Every month, week, and day have a different theme that are inspired by STEAM. We believe that Art is an amazing tool for teaching many subjects, but there will be a day each week that is devoted specifically to studying Language Arts, Social Studies/Geography, Science, Engineering, Math and Technology. After completing computer work and finishing lunch, we will buckle-up and drive our classroom to a learning destination to enhance what we’ve learned in the classroom. Students will have opportunities to learn scouting, theatre, fine arts, life skills such as effective communication, financial management, time management, decision-making, problem-solving, leadership, interpersonal skills, self-care, and goal setting. In addition, students will learn homesteading skills like gardening, taking care of animals, preserving food, repairing and fixing clothing and tools, cooking and many more. All of this is supported by the many different memberships and partnerships we’ve made. Our goal is that every student is provided with every opportunity they would get in a traditional school setting and so much more.
